Maternal Voice

This study deals with the question of when a fetus can distinguish the voice of its mother from other female voices. The fact that newborns have the ability to recognize their mother’s voice immediately after birth suggests that this characteristic is already acquired during pregnancy.

We stimulate the fetus with 3 minute fairy tale sequences which are read and recorded once by the own mother and once by a strange woman. We hope to see differences in fetal heart rate, fetal heart rate variability, and differences in the frequency bands of brain activity, as well as a difference in the level of event-related potentials.
